Undergraduate Admissions Process

Applicants must meet the requirements for admissions to the University and to the individual program within the School of Fine Arts.

Step 1: Apply to UConn 

For full application instructions, application deadlines, and detailed information, visit the UConn Admissions webpage. 

Please submit your completed UConn Application (Step 1) before continuing to Step 2. 

Step 2: Submit Fine Arts Additional Components 

Programs in the School of Fine Arts require additional components paired with the undergraduate application for admission consideration. Early Decision applicants must submit their materials by November 1 

Admission decisions to the School of Fine Arts will not be made until the Office of Undergraduate Admissions receives the results of an applicant’s additional requirement.   

Art BFA + Art BA

1. Choose Art BFA or Art BA

  • Art BFA: Concentrations in Graphic Design, Illustration/Animation, Industrial Design, Painting/Drawing, Photography/Video, and Sculpture/Ceramics
  • Art BA: No concentration (generalist degree)

This must match what is listed on your first and/or second choice major on your UConn Application. Major selections can be updated through the UConn Applicant Portal.

2. Submit SlideRoom Portfolio

Submit your Art BFA or BA portfolio via SlideRoom by January 15.

Art History BA

No additional components required.

Digital Media Design BFA + BA

1. Choose Digital Media Design (DMD) BFA or BA

  • Digital Media Design BFA: Concentrations in Game Design, 3D Animation, Motion Design & Animation, Digital Film / Video Production, or Web / Interactive Media Design. Portfolio required.
  • Digital Media Design BA: Concentrations in Digital Media Business Strategies or Digital Culture. No portfolio required.

This must match what is listed on your first and/or second choice major on your UConn Application. Major selections can be updated through the UConn Applicant Portal.

2. (BFA Only) Submit SlideRoom Portfolio

Submit your Digital Media Design BFA portfolio via SlideRoom by January 15.

No additional component is required for BA applicants.

Acting BFA

SlideRoom Audition and In-Person Callback

  1. Submit your Acting BFA audition portfolio via SlideRoom by January 1.
  2. Once your SlideRoom audition has been reviewed, you may be selected and contacted for an in-person callback on the Storrs Campus.
     

Early Decision Callback:

  • Saturday, November 14, 2026

Regular Decision Callback:

  • Sunday, December 13, 2026
  • Sunday, January 17, 2027
  • Sunday, January 24, 2027

Design and Technical Theatre BFA

Submit SlideRoom Portfolio

Submit your Design and Technical Theatre BFA portfolio via SlideRoom by January 1.

Once your portfolio has been reviewed, you may be selected for a virtual interview.

Puppet Arts BFA

Portfolio and In-Person Audition

  1. Email your creative portfolio and theatre resume to puppetarts@uconn.edu AND bp.roccoberton@uconn.edu. The Puppet Arts Program DOES NOT use Slideroom for portfolio reviews.
  2. Email to schedule your interview/audition.
     

Early Decision Audition:

Regular Decision Audition:

Theatre Studies BA

Attend Virtual Workshop

All applicants are strongly encouraged to attend one of our virtual workshops. At these workshops, you will have a chance to participate in hands-on theatre activities, meet Theatre Studies faculty, learn more about the program, and ask any questions that you have.

Workshops will be used to help determine Dramatic Arts talent scholarship distributions.

Music

1. Choose Music BA, Music BM, or Jazz Studies BM

  • Music BA: Includes concentrations in Pre-Music Education, Music History, Jazz, or Generalist Degree.
  • Music BM: Includes concentrations in Instrumental Performance, Vocal Performance, Composition, or Music Theory.
  • Jazz Studies BM

This must match what is listed on your first and/or second choice major on your UConn Application. Major selections can be updated through the UConn Applicant Portal.

2. Schedule In-Person Audition

Sign up for your Music audition on the website by January 1. Audition requirements per instrument are listed at the bottom of the page.
