Start and/or Grow Your Business with SBDC

 

The Connecticut Small Business Development Center (SBDC) offers professional, confidential, no-cost business advising to the general public. Partnered with the U.S. Small Business Association, the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development, and the University of Connecticut, SBDC offers a wide range of services and resources for anyone thinking of starting or currently managing a small business.

Need help completing or improving your loan application, or need assistance registering your business?

After completing an assessment, intake form, confidentiality agreement, and potential/current business plan, you can meet for a free one-on-one business advising session with Connecticut SBDC. During the COVID-19 Crisis, SBDC has also been providing a special updated COVID Resource Center with a dedicated resource guide outlining which governmental programs your business may qualify for, as well as, more information about the Paycheck Protection, and Shared Work, programs.

SBDC also offers free business skills training through a variety of informational animated slides. Some of these online courses include:

  • Accounting 101: The Fundamentals (2.5hrs)
  • Marketing 101: The Fundamentals (3hrs)
  • Hiring and Managing Employees (3hrs)
  • Finding Money to Start a Business (3hrs)
  • Starting a Business (3hrs)

Developed as part of the UConn Alumni's initiative to continuously offer current and relevant professional development for current and past huskies, "Elevate: Career Hacks" is an online webinar series featuring professional experts and alumni on a variety of topics. While alumni may sign-up for future webinars and ask questions live, webinars are also recorded and posted on the UConn Alumni's YouTube channel.
